Auslan Professionals Network
The Auslan Professionals Network is open to fluent Auslan users - Deaf, hard of hearing and hearing people with an interest in sharing life experiences through volunteer presentations in Auslan.
The objective of the group is to provide Deaf, hard of hearing and hearing people access to information, support and networking opportunities in Auslan.
The event is held on Sunday - every first Sunday of the second month (except the long weekends).

Christy Filipich
Christy will talk about books!
A book lover, Christy has a large library of books at home, she will show some select books from her library. The books will range from Deaf history, Deaf books, sign language etc. Christy started learning Auslan at TAFE around 20 years ago but actually learnt fingerspelling when she was in the Girl Guides over 30 years ago, she has kept the little booklet of "The Promise" in sign language. Also you can also have a look at possibly the first book published in 1903 about sign language in Australia - so valuable as it is over 100 years old!
Also she will bring books from Sesame Street about sign language, Aboriginal sign language, Native American sign language, a book written about a DeafBlind girl in 1890 and that book has some of her handwriting and more! Plus she will bring some special items relating to Deaf or sign languages! (Watch the video for the sneak peek!)

Rebecca Adam
As a new arrival to Western Australia, Rebecca Adam will be our first Auslan Professional Network presenter for 2021. Rebecca has accomplished much professionally with being the first native Deaf person acknowledged as a legal practitioner in an Australian Supreme Court and as an international Ambassador for the Deaflympics.
Rebecca will introduce us to her life being raised in a Deaf family, discuss her higher education achievements and professional experience and her role as CEO of Access Plus.

Lien is a qualified beautician specialising in cosmetic tattooing - she will explain about the new trend of cosmetic tattooing and some extra information about what she can do.

Dawn will be sharing a case that resulted in a miscarriage of justice for a Deaf person overseas.
Each presentation will go for 20 minutes.

Anne Burrough
Anne Burrough is an Auslan Interpreter who has worked for 13 years in the field and has a passion for Deafblind interpreting. Her mother is Deaf and her father is Deafblind. She recently attended the 17 th Deafblind International World Conference on the Gold Coast. She will be sharing her highlights from the conference and will be sharing some tips on how to communicate with the Deafblind.

Patti Levitzke-Gray will be presenting about the 18th World Federation of the Deaf Congress that took place in Paris, France. It was her 5th Congress and she will share information from the International level, including the different presentations relating to Deaf people and sign language.
